Welcome to the Minnesota Chapter of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses!
This fall and winter have been busy for Rehabilitation Nurses and for the MN Chapter ARN Board Members. The Annual National Conference was November 2-5, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two of our board members joined me in attending the Annual Conference: Dana Keliin Vice President and Website Editor, and Nancy Roster Member at Large. While at the conference we recognized many rehab nurses from MN and enjoyed sharing in the experience with those nurses. It was a great conference with many “take backs” as well as plenty of opportunities for networking and for obtaining resources for improvement of our chapter. Dana and I attended the Leader’s Reception on the opening night. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet many other Chapter Leaders as well as the National ARN Board Members. We are exploring many of the resources from this reception and are hoping to pursue virtual educational offerings and meetings in the near future!
Also in November, the Minneapolis VA Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder Center hosted our board meeting and presented a fabulous in-service on pressure ulcer prevention and management. This in-service was interdisciplinary with nursing, WOC nursing, physical and speech therapy and dietician in-put. It was a hands on learning experience and even included a demonstration of a flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) with a very brave board member (Val) acting as the patient. We received a tour of their Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder Center which is incredible. It was a fun learning experience with many great resources provided. Thank you again to the Minneapolis VA Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder Center for hosting this event.
Please join me in looking ahead at Rehabilitation Nursing educational opportunities, networking and chapter news!

Annual MN Chapter ARN Spring Conference
We are very excited to be hosting the 10th year of the Annual MN Chapter ARN Spring Conference. By popular vote from all attendees at last year’s conference this year’s conference will be held on Friday, April 20th at the Prom Center in Oakdale, MN. The 2011 Spring Conference was very successful with a great vendor attendance and wonderful speakers that provided a variety of educational topic presentations. The Spring Conference Committee is busy finalizing speakers/presentations and preparing for this upcoming event.
Please check your e-mails for updated flyers and information regarding the upcoming educational offerings as well as the Spring Conference brochure and registration information. You can also find more details regarding these educational offerings on our website: www.mn-arn.org
All information regarding events at any rehabilitation facility will be posted. Please send information for upcoming educational events that you would like to see posted to: dana.keliin@allina.com
Currently our Education Chair Val Pearson is hard at work in an attempt to secure ANCC accredited CEU’s for our upcoming February in-service as well as the Spring Conference. The North Dakota Nurse Association that was providing our previous ANCC accredited CEU’s discontinued services in October and securing a new provider has been a difficult process. MN Board of Nursing CEU’s will be provided for the February in-service. It is our hope and goal to be able to provide ANCC accredited CEU’s for all of our educational offerings, unfortunately I’m unable to say positively that this will be available for the February offering. Please check your e-mails and the attached flyers for the February offering for updates regarding CEU’s.
Other Organizations pertaining to Rehabilitation Nursing with Educational Offerings:
The NAON (National Association of Orthopedic Nurses) local chapter hosts educational offerings a couple of times a year. They are ANCC accredited CEU’s. Please review their websites for additional information.
